At 1618hrs Lake Carmel fire dept was dispatched for smoke investigation behind Sparrow Ridge Condo development on Hill & Dale Rd. Upon arrival of first responders they found a brush fire in an area with very limited access. Because of the area a call for assistance went out to Carmel FD.
Command was established by Chief Jack Keher and once there were eyes on the fire, crews estimated it to be the size of a football field and growing because of the wind condition. Chief Keher requested Carmel FD with an additional engine, brush truck and Patterson FD with their UTV and brush truck. Crews were working diligently but the fire was now getting close to Palmer Trail in the Hill & Dale Country Club so a call went out to Kent FD with an engine and brush truck to meet assistant Chief TJ Donohue at the end of Palmer Trail and requested for Mahopac FD with an engine to attack the fire from Glenna Dr.
Putnam County Battalion 3 and Battalion 8 were on scene handling the resources. An engine from Brewster FD stood by at Lake Carmel FD headquarters. An engine from Mahopac FD relocated to Carmel FD and Putnam Valley FD stood by in their station 2.
Lake Carmel Ambulance was on standby on scene and then transported a fire fighter to a local hospital for an evaluation.
