The Lake Carmel Fire Department was founded in 1945 to provide fire protection to Lake Carmel and Kent. For over 65 years, dedicated LCFD volunteers have provided residents of Kent / Lake Carmel with the best possible emergency medical care and fire protection professionally and expediently.

Our department answers nearly 1000 calls a year with well-trained and dedicated volunteers. We hope to continue enhancing the emergency services we provide to the community and to sustain our lifesaving services into the next millennium, but we need your help.

We desperately need more volunteers. Our bylaws have changed, which now allow Emergency Medical Technicians to join without doing fire fighting basic training. We hope this will help address the growing need for ambulance service in our community. With the ever-increasing population in Kent/Lake Carmel, our Station 2, which is located on Farmers Mills Rd, needs more volunteers.

How can I help?

Our members are teachers, construction workers, nurses, police officers, firefighters, housewives, professionals, students, retirees, and other neighbors who want to help their community. Although we welcome members who want to serve in administrative capacities, our greatest need is for riding members.

I don't know how to fight fires or provide First-Aid.

We'll teach you! All members learn CPR/First Aid from our Red Cross instructors. Basic firefighting courses and EMT courses are provided at the County Training Centers, which are both local. Additional training can be done at other outreach programs that are also in the area.

How much time do I need to give?

Once you have been trained, you need to make at least 50 points a year. You receive points for every call, drill and monthly meetings, which last about two hours. All these points go toward your retirement program. If you work nights, you can still volunteer, because we can always use your help in protecting our community when others are at work.

The rewards of joining
